Bears Sign Logan Pyett and Adam Morrison to AHL Deals

August 17, 2018

The Hershey Bears announced today the club has signed defenseman Logan Pyett and goaltender Adam Morrison to one-year, American Hockey League contracts for the 2018-19 season.

Pyett, 30, brings five years of AHL experience to Hershey's blue line. The defender skated with Grand Rapids from 2008-12, and played with Connecticut  in 2012-13. With the Griffins, Pyett became the first defender in franchise history to record a hat trick, striking three times in the second period on Feb. 27, 2011 vs. Hamilton. With Connecticut, Pyett enjoyed his best professional season, cracking the 30-point mark for the second time in his AHL career. He ended the 2012-13 campaign with a career-high 39 points (7 goals, 32 assists) in 74 games with the Whale.

Pyett, a 5-foot-10, 200-pound native of Regina, Saskatchewan, played two seasons in the KHL from 2013-15, skating with Podolsk, Vladivostok, and Cherepovets. He returned to the AHL for the 2015-16 season, signing a contract with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. However, he never appeared in a game with the club after being diagnosed with a sarcoma, a form of cancer, in his upper leg. After a year off, Pyett has recovered, returning to the ice with the Tohoku Free Blades in the Asia League last season, scoring 15 points (four goals, 11 assists) in 26 games.

The former captain of the WHL's Regina Pats was originally a 7th round selection of the Detroit Red Wings in the 2006 NHL Draft. He has appeared in 362 career AHL games, scoring 132 points (30 goals, 102 assists).

Morrison, 27, returns to the Hershey organization after signing a professional tryout and serving as Hershey's third goaltender during the 2017 Calder Cup Playoffs. He skated in Washington Capitals training camp last season, before sustaining an injury. Upon his recovery, he spent the 2017-18 campaign with the ECHL's Wheeling Nailers, posting a 18-14-2 record in 36 games with a 3.12 goals against average, a .905 save percentage, and one shutout.

The 6-foot-3, 194-pound netminder has appeared in 146 career ECHL games with Utah, South Carolina, Reading, Fort Wayne, Greenville, Rapid City, and Wheeling posting a 67-54-18 record with a 2.85 goals against average, .910 save percentage, and nine shutouts. In 2014-15 with South Carolina, Morrison, along with teammate Jeff Jakaitis, set an ECHL record with the most collective shutouts in a season with 11.

Morrison has appeared in two career AHL games, both with the Providence Bruins. The White Rock, British Columbia native was originally a third round selection of the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2009 NHL Draft.
