BEARS SIGN JOSH BRITTAIN, DUSTIN GAZLEY TO AHL CONTRACTS

August 7, 2013

HERSHEY, Pa. – The Hershey Bears announced today that the club has signed forwards Josh Brittain and Dustin Gazley to American Hockey League contracts for the 2013-14 season.  The announcement was made by Bears President/GM Doug Yingst.

Brittain, 23, split the 2012-13 campaign between the ECHL’s Fort Wayne Komets and the AHL’s Norfolk Admirals.  In just 31 games with Fort Wayne, Brittain recorded 27 points (13 goals, 14 assists) and ranked sixth on the team in goal scoring.  His plus-10 efficiency rating also stood up as the squad’s best at the end of the season.  In 43 games with the Admirals, Brittain netted 19 points (11 goals, eight assists), tying for second on the team in game-winning goals (three).  The 6-5, 225-pound native of Milton, Ontario has played in a total of 94 American Hockey League games with Norfolk and Syracuse, totaling 26 points (13 goals, 13 assists).

Prior to turning pro, Brittain played four years of junior hockey with the OHL’s Kingston Frontenacs, Barrie Colts and Plymouth Whalers, amassing 152 points (80 goals, 72 assists) in 258 games.  He also won the gold medal with Team Canada at the 2008 Under-18 World Championship.  Brittain was originally selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the third round (71st overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

Gazley, 24, began 2012-13 with the ECHL’s Elmira Jackals and piled up 49 points (14 goals, 35 assists) in just 37 games played, holding the league scoring lead at the time of his first AHL recall.  He went on to record nine points (four goals, five assists) in 29 games with the AHL’s Binghamton Senators.

The 5-9, 154-pound native of Novi, Michigan became the fifth rookie in ECHL history to lead the league in scoring when he posted 85 points (25 goals, 60 assists) in all 72 regular-season games with Elmira in 2011-12.  Prior to turning pro, Gazley played four years of collegiate hockey with Michigan State University (CCHA), where he totaled 73 points (30 goals, 43 assists) in 153 career games.
