HERSHEY, Pa. – The HERSHEY BEARS announced today that the club has recalled goaltender Daren Machesney from the South Carolina Stingrays (ECHL). The announcement was made by BEARS President/GM Doug Yingst.
Machesney, 25, returns to Chocolatetown where he spent three seasons suiting up for the BEARS. He compiled a record of 44-25-4 with four shutouts in 84 total appearances. His 19 victories tied him for the BEARS team lead in the 2008-09 season.
The 6-0, 185-pound native of Hamilton, ON recently helped the Stingrays to their one-game lead in the Kelly Cup Playoffs. He posted a mark of 1-1-0, a goals-against average of 1.51 and a save percentage of .935. He recorded a shutout in Game One of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals against the Gwinnett Gladiators.
In 20 regular-season appearances in South Carolina, Machesney holds an 11-9-0 mark with one shutout, a goals-against average of 2.28 and save percentage of .921.
Machesney was originally selected by the Washington Capitals in the fifth round (143rd overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
Also announced today, the club has signed goaltender Scott Greenham to a professional tryout agreement. Greenham, 24, joins the BEARS after completing his fourth season at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks (CCHA). Greenham posted a record of 11-18-4 with three shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.47 and save percentage of .905 in 33 appearances in his senior year.
The 6-2, 210-pound native of Addison, ON saw five games of professional action this season as well, appearing in two games with the Houston Aeros (AHL) and in three games with the Bakersfield Condors (ECHL).
Greenham is 48-47-19 with 11 shutouts in his four collegiate seasons.
The BEARS return to GIANT Center for the last two home games of the regular season tonight at 7:00 PM against the Syracuse Crunch, and tomorrow, April 8 at 5:00 PM against the Connecticut Whale.
