Bears Blanked by Devils, 3-0

March 10, 2018

The Hershey Bears were blanked by the Binghamton Devils, 3-0, on Saturday at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena. Vitek Vanecek turned aside 30 of 32 shots to keep the Chocolate and White within striking distance in their lone visit to Binghamton this season.

Only 3:54 into the contest, the Devils struck for the eventual game-winning goal. Mario Lucia walked around the defense and found a streaking Tim Kennedy to the net. From in close, Kennedy slid a shot low to the ice past Vanecek to make it 1-0 Devils.

The Bears were outshot 15-3 in the opening frame. After a scoreless second period, shot totals moved to 21-14 in favor of Binghamton.

Chris Bourque was whistled for a slashing minor at 16:55 of the third period, opening the door for Binghamton to grab insurance. At 17:44, Bracken Kearns tallied his 13th goal of the season, tapping in a pass from former Bear Michael Latta from the top of the crease. Kevin Rooney added the empty net tally at 18:16 shortly after Vanecek vacated his net in favor of the extra attacker.

Hershey was outshot 33-18 in the game. Binghamton netminder MacKenzie Blackwood stopped all 18 shots thrown his way to earn his second shutout of the season.

Hershey's record moves to 25-28-4-5 on the regular season in the shutout loss. The Devils improve to 20-30-7-3.

The Chocolate And White return home Sunday to conclude a three in three stretch against the Grand Rapids Griffins. It is the first meeting between the Bears and Griffins at the Giant Center since 2006. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. Ticket information is available at HersheyBears.com.
