Bears Re-Sign Defender Hubert Labrie

July 17, 2017

The Hershey Bears announced today that the club has re-signed defenseman Hubert Labrie to a one-year, American Hockey League contract. The announcement was made by Vice President of Hockey Operations, Bryan Helmer.

"We're thrilled to have Hubert Labrie back for 2017-18," said Helmer. "You want players like him on your roster. Not only does he compete hard every game, but with our incoming group of young defenders, he's going to be a great locker room presence and a veteran leader that young guys look up to."

Labrie, 26, enjoyed the best season of his professional career with Hershey in 2016-17, setting personal bests in games played (70), goals (three), assists (eight), points (11), and penalty minutes (66). Labrie was named the winner of Hershey’s Arlene Tighe Award, given annually to the  "Bears Unsung Hero" of the regular season.  He skated in all 12 of Hershey's playoff games, collecting four assists.

The 5-foot-11, 194-pound defender has appeared in 281 career AHL games with Texas, Springfield, San Antonio, Chicago, and Hershey, scoring 44 points (10 goals, 34 assists) and logging 324 penalty minutes. Labrie was a member of the 2014 Calder Cup Champion Texas Stars, registering seven points in 40 regular season games, and appearing in four playoff games.

Labrie was originally signed as a free agent by the Dallas Stars in 2009 out of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. With Gatineau of the QMJHL, Labrie skated in 192 games over four seasons, serving as the team captain in 2009-10. He won a QMJHL Championship in 2007-08, and posted 48 points (10 goals, 38 assists) and 268 penalty minutes in his junior hockey career.
