Bears Unveil Logo for 80th Anniversary Season
The Hershey Bears have unveiled a commemorative logo to celebrate the club's historic 80th Anniversary Season. The anniversary will be celebrated throughout the upcoming
"The Hershey Bears have a history and tradition that is second to none," said Vice President of Hockey Operations Bryan Helmer. "We feel this logo celebrates our past, and gets us ready for the excitement 2017-18 will bring. We look forward to seeing our passionate fan base join us for our historic 80th Anniversary Season, a year in which we will head back outdoors, and continue to chase a 12th Calder Cup title."
The 80th anniversary logo was designed by Joe Bosack & Co. of Pottsville, PA. Bosack also designed Hershey's current set of logos, and has worked with the club to develop previous commemorative logos, including the team's 75th Anniversary logo utilized in 2012-13.
The Bears unveiling of the logo on Jun. 28 comes on the anniversary of the club's entrance into the American Hockey League. On Jun. 28, 1938, Hershey officially signed as members of the then International-American Hockey League, which would become the American Hockey League. Eighty seasons later, Hershey is the longest continuously operating member club of the AHL still playing in its original city. The Bears have enjoyed a storied history, winning a league-best 11 Calder Cup titles and sending numerous former players to the National Hockey League. The Bears boast a fan base that has led the league in attendance for 11 consecutive years.
Hershey's home opener of the 80th Anniversary Season is slated for Saturday, Oct. 14 at Giant Center. A full 2017-18 schedule will be released later this summer by the AHL, but Hershey is also guaranteed to have home games on Oct. 28, Oct. 29, Nov. 11, and Dec. 10.
The marquee event of the 80th Anniversary Season will take place on Jan. 20, 2018, when the club hosts the 2018 Outdoor Classic at Hersheypark Stadium versus the rival Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Tickets for this special event are slated to go on sale to the general public on Friday, Aug. 18, with season ticket holders having the first opportunity to purchase tickets with a pre-sale starting in early August. Many additional details, including ticket prices and packages, and well as festivities surrounding the game, will be released in the coming months.
