Djoos, Stephenson Recalled to Washington

(Hershey, PA- January 30, 2017)-The Washington Capitals announced today the recall of defenseman Christian Djoos and forward Chandler Stephenson from the Hershey Bears ®.This is the first NHL recall for Djoos. The 22-year-old was a seventh round selection of Washington in the 2012 NHL Draft. With Hershey this season, Djoos has posted 26 points (five goals, 21 assists) in 35 games. He ranks first on the club in scoring among defenders, and fifth overall in points. His 21 assists are good for third on the club.
In his AHL career, Djoos has appeared in 98 games with Hershey, scoring 49 points (14 goals, 36 assists). The native of Gothenberg, Sweden is the son of former NHL defender Par Djoos who played 95 NHL games with Detroit and the New York Rangers.
Stephenson, 22, returns to the Capitals after appearing in two games with Washington last week, skating in the club's 3-0 loss at Ottawa on Jan. 24 and appearing in a 5-2 win over New Jersey on Jan. 26. Stephenson has skated in 11 career games with the Capitals after making his NHL debut on Oct. 15, 2015 in Washington’s 4-1 win over Chicago. He was a third round selection of Washington in the 2012 NHL Draft.
The Saskatchewan native has appeared in 41 games with Hershey this season, registering 24 points (six goals, 18 assists) to go along with 28 penalty minutes. His 18 assists are fifth on the club, and he ranks seventh on the team in points. In 143 career AHL games with Hershey, Stephenson has scored 67 points (21 goals, 46 assists).
The Bears are currently on break for the 2017 AHL All-Star Classic. Forwards Chris Bourque and Travis Boyd are representing the Bears at the event in Allentown, PA. Hershey returns to action this Friday in Binghamton.
