Honoring 34 Devoted Years to Hershey Bears Hockey

Honoring 34 Devoted Years to Hershey Bears Hockey

February 11, 2016

At the beginning of the 2015-2016 season, Doug Yingst, President & General Manager, Hershey Bears Hockey Club, announced his retirement following a storied 34 year career with the historic team. During his tenure, the Bears brought home five Calder Cup Championships and continually maintained one of the best attendance records in the league.

To thank Doug for his commitment to the team, the Bears have announced a night of celebration in his honor on Saturday, March 26, 2016, during a home game at GIANT Center.

There will be a ceremony, prior to puck drop, to commemorate Doug’s years with the Bears. Speakers are slated to include Dave Andrews, President, American Hockey League (AHL) and Bill Simpson, President & CEO, Hershey Entertainment & Resorts.

“Doug Yingst has had an unparalleled career as an executive in the American Hockey League. Thirty four years as an executive with the Hershey Bears, fifteen of those as President and General Manager. Five Calder Cups, twice a James Hendy Award winner as Executive of the Year in the American Hockey League, and a winner of the Thomas Ebright Award for career contributions to the AHL. Doug has chaired virtually every AHL committee including the Executive Committee. I have been privileged to have worked with Doug Yingst at the league level for the past 21 years. I have the utmost respect and appreciation for his contributions to the Hershey Bears, the AHL, and the game of hockey. He is and will always be a valued friend," said Dave Andrews.

Bill Simpson notes, “Doug Yingst has been a critical part of the Hershey Bears organization for the past three decades. He not only helped raise the Calder Cup five times in Hershey, but has also put giving back to the community and cultivating youth hockey at the forefront of his career. We are grateful to Doug for his devotion and dedication to the Hershey Bears.”

The night will include testimonials and memorable footage from Doug’s career. Alumni players and coaching staff members will play a role in this special occasion. The first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive a commemorative Doug Yingst bobble head.

The Hershey Bears hope our loyal fans will attend the game to experience this exciting night as Doug Yingst is honored for the admirable service he has given to the sport he loves.
