ICECAPS POWER PAST BEARS

November 27, 2013

HERSHEY, Pa. – Brenden Kichton scored twice to help the St. John’s IceCaps skate to a 4-2 victory over the Hershey Bears on Wednesday night at GIANT Center.

The IceCaps would control the possession for a good bit of the early first period, and would be rewarded with the opening goal. Kael Mouillierat knocked the puck from a Bears defenseman after a hit in the corner, and feathered a pass toward the slot for a wide-open Patrice Cormier. Cormier’s wrist shot beat goaltender David Leggio to the stick side at 4:06.

After a successful penalty kill, the Bears embarked on their first power play of the game and evened the contest at 10:59. Julien Brouillette aimed a wrist shot from the center point, and Peter LeBlanc, stationed at the left of the net, got a stick on the puck to deflect it past IceCaps goaltender Eddie Pasquale.

The IceCaps began to turn up the pressure in the second period, working the puck deep in the Bears’ end and drawing two penalties in the process. On the second chance – and after Leggio made a diving stop with the paddle of his stick on the first –Kichton finally solved him by firing a high wrist shot through a screen at 11:08.

The Bears would get Leggio off for a sixth attacker with more than two minutes left in regulation. However an errant pass found its way across the defensive blue line and onto the tape of Kichton, who fired a long-range shot into the empty net at 18:49.

Ryan Stoa’s snap shot would beat Pasquale with 3.1 seconds left, rounding out the scoring.

Leggio made 28 saves on 31 shots, many of which stellar, and was tagged with the loss to fall to 2-5-1. Pasquale moves to 9-7-1 with 23 saves.

The Bears fall to 6-7-2-2 with the loss.

Hershey’s homestand continues with a matchup against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Saturday, November 30 at 7:00 PM. It’s another Dietz and Watson Dollar Dog Night, on which fans may purchase hot dogs for $1 at select concession stands throughout GIANT Center.
