August 20, 2013

HERSHEY, Pa. – The Hershey Bears announced today that the organization has signed forward Brandon Segal to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2013-14 season.  The announcement was made by Bears President/GM Doug Yingst.

A veteran of 103 National Hockey League contests, Segal, 30, is entering his 11th professional season.  The most recent AHL action for Segal was a 73-game stint with the Connecticut Whale last season.  He recorded 44 points in that span (24 goals, 20 assists), leading the Whale in goal scoring and tying for the team lead with four game-winning tallies.

The 6-2, 215-pound native of Richmond, British Columbia has skated in a total of 589 American Hockey League games with Connecticut, Norfolk, Rockford, Texas, Manchester, Portland and Milwaukee, and has amassed 288 points (149 goals, 139 assists).  He was a two-time Calder Cup finalist with Milwaukee, winning the championship with the Admirals in 2004.  He also hoisted the trophy eight years later in 2012 with the Norfolk Admirals.  Segal was also a member of the Canadian All-Star squad in the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic.

Segal’s National Hockey League tenure featured stops in Tampa Bay, Los Angeles, Dallas and the New York Rangers.  He has recorded 22 points (11 goals, 11 assists) while notching 85 penalty minutes.

Segal was originally selected by the Nashville Predators in the fourth round (102nd overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
