HERSHEY, Pa. – The HERSHEY BEARS announced today that the Washington Capitals have signed defenseman Julien Brouillette to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2013-14 season. The announcement was made by BEARS President/GM Doug Yingst.
Brouillette, 26, has played 52 games with the Bears during 2012-13, recording five points (one goal, four assists) and 35 penalty minutes. His plus-seven rating ranks tops among defensemen that have spent the entire campaign in Hershey.
The 5-11, 194-pound native of St. Esprit, PQ is in his second season with Hershey. In 126 games, Brouillette has recorded eight goals, 18 assists, 61 penalty minutes and a cumulative plus-four rating. He set AHL career highs in goals (seven), assists (14) and points (21) with the Bears in 2011-12.
Brouillette appeared in his 200th American Hockey League game on March 30, and has accumulated 48 points (11 goals, 37 assists) in his 200-game AHL career with Providence, Hartford, Charlotte, Lake Erie and Hershey.
Prior to turning pro, Brouillette played four seasons of junior hockey with the Chicoutimi Sagueneens (QMJHL), posting 123 points (27 goals, 96 assists), 206 penalty minutes and a cumulative plus-44 rating in 227 career games. Brouillette also tallied 102 points (41 goals, 61 assists) in 210 games with Columbia, Charlotte, Greenville and Reading of the ECHL.

The 6’3, 210-pound defenseman recently completed his senior season at Boston College, recording career highs in points (13), assists (12), games played (37, tied) and penalty minutes (54) and registered a plus-14 rating this season. Wey helped Boston College to a 22-12-4 record and a berth in the NCAA tournament. He was named a 2013 Hockey East Second-Team All-Star and named Hockey East’s 2013 Best Defensive Defenseman.
