BEARS at PHANTOMS: The HERSHEY BEARS have taken to the road on this post-holiday weekend for a Saturday night tilt against the Adirondack Phantoms. The two teams will play the first of four meetings during this regular season. Adirondack is the top AHL developmental affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers.

ALL-TIME: Including the time that the Phantoms spent in Philadelphia, tonight’s matchup will be the 174th in history. The BEARS have a slight edge in the all-time season series, going 84-76-14 (W – L/OTL – T/SOL) against the Phantoms. The BEARS finished last season’s series with a record of 2-1-1-0. Both HERSHEY wins came in Chocolatetown.

THE LAST TIME: The BEARS and Phantoms last met on March 16 at GIANT Center, with HERSHEY skating to a 6-3 win. Tomas Kundratek had one of his best nights offensively, scoring one goal and setting up three others to pace the HERSHEY scoring. Former BEARS winger Kyle Greentree scored twice, Garrett Mitchell added a shorthanded goal and Dany Sabourin made 31 saves in the victory. Former HERSHEY forward Matt Ford led the Phantoms’ offense with one goal and one assist.

RECENT RECAPS: The BEARS offense was snuffed out at home on Wednesday night for the first time this season and for the first time since last April 8, as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins blanked the BEARS by a 4-0 count. Not only was the red light kept off for the night, but the BEARS managed a season-low 15 shots on goal on Penguins netminder Jeff Zatkoff. The first period ended scoreless and was a good battle, but as things became chippy in the second period, the BEARS found themselves in early penalty trouble. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton exploited that by scoring two power-play goals separated by just 1:01 to take a second-period lead into the dressing room. The BEARS then earned their opportunities on the man advantage later in the second, and in fact had a carry-over power play to work with at the start of the third. Instead, Benn Ferriero stole a puck and took off on a shorthanded breakaway to beat Braden Holtby with a shot off of the arm, pulling the Penguins further away. Warren Peters added a late third-period goal to seal the victory.

CAPTAIN & TENURE: Captain Boyd Kane appeared in his 307th game with HERSHEY on Wednesday against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. On November 3, Kane became the 41st BEARS player with 300 or more games in Chocolatetown to his credit, and is now just two games behind Andre Gill and "Mr. HERSHEY BEARS Hockey" Frank Mathers on the BEARS’ all-time games played list. He also needs just 18 more games to reach 1,000 in his professional career in the ECHL, AHL and NHL combined.

DiSALVATORE CLOSING IN: RW Jon DiSalvatore needs one more point to reach 500 in his AHL career (208-291-499). The veteran winger is also just six games away from 700 in the AHL.

"O" FROM THE "D": Two of the BEARS top three scorers are defensemen (1st – Garrett Stafford 1-13-14, 3rd – Tomas Kundratek 4-7-11). The BEARS defense corps has contributed 37 points (8-29-37) through the first 16 games, with Kundratek pacing blueliners with four of the eight goals.

NOT SHORT-STAFFED: D Garrett Stafford’s 14 points rank sixth among AHL defensemen, and his 13 assists rank third.

SPECIAL TEAMS: The two teams who will oppose the BEARS this weekend, Adirondack and Toronto, are tied for the league lead in power play opportunities (92).
