RECENT RECAPS: Both the BEARS and Devils were in action last night. HERSHEY began its second straight weekend set of three games in three nights with a game against the Connecticut Whale last night in Hartford’s XL Center. The Whale jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals separated by two minutes. Brandon Segal started things off by tapping a pass from Marek Hrivik behind Dany Sabourin from the top of the netminder’s crease. Shortly afterward, Christian Thomas led a short-length two-on-one from the right circle before passing to a driving Tommy Grant. Grant was able to beat Sabourin high to give the Whale a lead which held up until late in the third period. While working on the team’s third power play of the evening, Mattias Sjogren and Tomas Kundratek were able to set up Dmitry Orlov for a slap shot from the center point. The puck sailed past a screen set up by Boyd Kane and over the glove of Whale goaltender Cam Talbot, putting the BEARS on the board with 6:35 left to play. The BEARS would pull Sabourin with just under two minutes remaining, but with 1:15 left on the clock, Ryan Bourque picked up a puck at the center circle and hit the empty net to seal Connecticut’s 3-1 victory.
Last night’s game between Albany and their Northway-rival Adirondack Phantoms contained a rare occurrence of two penalty shots in the same contest. The Devils converted their chance and received goals from four other players to cruise to a 5-1 win at Times Union Center. Veteran winger Matt Anderson first set up the opening strike from Jacob Josefson, the Stockholm native’s fourth of the young season, and then went on to score his first of the campaign to give the Devils a 2-0 edge with just over four minutes remaining in the opening period. But a tripping foul was assessed to the Devils shortly afterward on a Phantoms breakaway, and Zac Rinaldo beat Jeff Frazee on the ensuing penalty shot to cut the Albany lead to one. Adam Henrique was then awarded a penalty shot via the same violation, and converted his chance when he slipped a shot past Adirondack backstop Cal Heeter. Philip DeSimone and Darcy Zajac added third-period goals to round out the scoring. Frazee picked up his first win of the season with a 23-save effort in the Devils crease.
Only two power plays were handed out in the contest – the Phantoms being the recipient of both.

SABOURIN SOLID: Dany Sabourin allowed the opening two goals against Connecticut last night in Hartford, and went on to stop the last 16 shots he faced. Sabourin finished with 26 saves in the contest.
ORLOV ON THE BOARD: D Dmitry Orlov notched his first goal of the season on a power play in last night’s contest against Connecticut. Orlov now has points in three consecutive games (1-2-3) and shows (1-3-4) in five games.
BEST BEHAVIOR: The BEARS’ six total penalty minutes in last night’s game was the team’s lowest total since January 11, 2012 in a game at Charlotte. The last time that the BEARS registered fewer than six penalty minutes was on November 4, 2011 at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (four). Additionally, last night’s combined total of 12 penalty minutes was the lowest since April 15, when the BEARS (eight) and Worcester Sharks (two) combined for 10.
“O” FROM THE “D”; 17 of the BEARS’ 43 total points have come from defensemen.
SPREADING THE WEALTH: After five games and of the 23 active forwards and defensemen on the BEARS roster, 15 have found the score sheet with at least one point. Additionally, six players (DiSalvatore, Mitchell, Potulny, Stafford, Stoa, Taffe) have recorded multiple-point games.
POWERFUL: The BEARS got back on the power-play goal train with Dmitry Orlov’s tally last night at Connecticut. The club is once again back near the top of the AHL in power-play efficiency (6-for-23, 26.1%, 7
th in AHL) and are averaging 1.2 power play goals per game.
PK PICKING UP: The BEARS have strung together a run of seven consecutive penalty kills, going 4-for-4 against Binghamton on Sunday and 3-for-3 against Connecticut last night.
ROAD TOUGH: The Devils, despite playing just once away from home, were on the penalty kill nine times in that lone road contest against Worcester on October 20 – and were successful on all nine kills.
