BEARS DROP ONE-GOAL DECISION IN WORCESTER

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 9, 2011 CONTACT: â€" HERSHEY BEARS â€" SHARKS EDGE BEARS 3-2 WEDNESDAY IN WORCESTER ORLOV NETS FIRST NORTH AMERICAN GOAL, LACROIX SCORES IN THIRD, BEARS ON TO HARTFORD FRIDAY TO FACE THE WHALE HERSHEY rallied to pull within a goal in the third period, but fell one short in a 3-2 loss to the Worcester Sharks at the DCU Center. Rookie defenseman Dmitry Orlov scored his first goal in North America at 7:35 of the first period to give the BEARS a 1-0 lead, but the Sharks would rally with defenseman Jon Landry’s rebound strike at 11:06 of the first. Worcester fired 16 shots at HERSHEY goaltender Nolan Schaefer, while Tyson Sexsmith of Worcester saw nine HERSHEY chances in the first frame. Worcester’s Brandon Mashinter scored the only goal of the second period, a shot from low on the left wing that came off Schaefer to the back of the net, giving the Sharks a 2-1 lead. With the Sharks up 3-1 in the third period, Maxime Lacroix put home a backhander from Ashton Rome at 12:28 to make the score 3-2. HERSHEY could not draw any closer, dropping a second straight one-goal decision in New England. BEARS Radio Network Three Stars of the game: 1. Tyson Sexsmith (31 saves) 2. Jon Landry (One goal) 3. Dmitry Orlov (First AHL goal) Notes: Defenseman Patrick Wellar missed Wednesday’s game due to injury, and is listed as day-to-day with a lower body injury he originally suffered last Wednesday in Norfolk. The BEARS will have Thursday off before taking on the Connecticut Whale Friday night at XL Center in downtown Hartford. Airtime is 6:30 p.m. on the BEARS Radio Network, with a 7:00 p.m. puck drop. After a game in Adirondack Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. against the Phantoms, HERSHEY returns home Sunday to complete seven games in nine days as Norfolk comes to central PA for the final time in 2010-11.
