BEARS RALLY TO EVEN FINALS WITH DRAMATIC WIN IN GAME 4

June 10, 2010

CARLSON’S LATE HEROICS BOOST BEARS TO GAME 4 WIN Hershey Ties Series with Come-From-Behind Victory By Jess Mikula Rookie defenseman John Carlson broke a 2-2 deadlock late in regulation to lift the BEARS en route to a 4-2 Game 4 victory over the Texas Stars. The best-of-seven Calder Cup Finals series is now tied at two games apiece. Keith Aucoin opened scoring for HERSHEY Wednesday night, firing a wrister from the left wall that eluded Texas netminder Matt Climie at 5:17. Alexandre Giroux and Andrew Gordon tallied the assists on the power play marker, Aucoin’s second goal of the playoffs. Greg Rallo evened the score just as a Stars power play expired, launching a shot from the high slot, fed by Dan Jancevski and Travis Morin at 17:33. The BEARS and Stars were at a 1-1 halt after one. HERSHEY was assessed a bench minor for too many men on the ice midway through the middle stanza, and Perttu Lindgren capitalized on the man advantage for the Stars, sending the puck top shelf on Neuvirth’s blocker side. Garrett Stafford and Morin fed Lindgren for the power play strike at 10:47. The Chocolate and White answered, as Mathieu Perreault dished a pass from behind the cage to Jay Beagle in the slot. Beagle unleashed the one timer past Climie for his second goal of the postseason at 13:45, with Patrick McNeill recording the secondary assist. The BEARS survived a late Texas onslaught to keep the game knotted at two goals apiece after 40 minutes of play. The Chocolate and White took its first lead of the night on a late third period power play. Bourque threaded Aucoin, who launched a low shot from the left circle. Carlson tipped the shot into the back of the net for his first postseason tally and the game winner. HERSHEY finished the game on the power play, as Texas left winger Scott McCulloch took an undisciplined boarding penalty at 18:02. Giroux netted the empty net tally on the power play at 19:33, assisted by Perreault. Neuvirth earned his 12th win of the playoffs between the pipes, making 24 saves on 26 shots. The BEARS converted three times on five power play chances and denied the Stars on three of four man advantages. Bears Radio Network Three Stars of the Game: 1. John Carlson (game-winning goal) 2.
