MINK'S THREE POINTS HELP BEARS BLANK BINGHAMTON

Watch Now

March 3, 2012

HERSHEY, Pa. – Braden Holtby turned aside 17 shots, Graham Mink picked up three points, and Kyle Greentree and Ryan Potulny each registered a goal and an assist to help the HERSHEY BEARS earn a 3-0 win over the Binghamton Senators on Saturday night at GIANT Center.

After Binghamton spent nearly the first minute of the game in their offensive zone, the BEARS dominated play for the remainder of the period.  After outshooting the Senators 10-1, the BEARS finally solved netminder Mike McKenna when Greentree rifled a slap shot from the slot through traffic off a feed from Potulny and in at 12:44.  Greentree and Mink then returned the favor by working the puck in a cycle in the left-wing corner.  Mink’s wrap-around attempt was stuffed by McKenna, but Potulny crashed the crease and slipped the puck home at 14:50 for a 2-0 BEARS lead.

The BEARS outshot the Senators 17-2 after the first period.

Binghamton earned three power plays in the middle stanza, but were unsuccessful on all of them.  As time was winding down in the second, the Senators turned the puck over at their own blue line, leading to a two-on-one rush.  Cody Eakin carried the puck down the slot, passed to his right, and found Mink who got enough of the shot to slide it under McKenna with 44.4 seconds remaining on the clock.

The BEARS then possessed the puck for the majority of the third, earning three power play opportunities in the final frame to help.  Despite not scoring, the BEARS held the Senators to just six shots on goal and cruised to victory.

With the win, Holtby improves to 20-14-2 and earns his third shutout of the season.  McKenna falls to 13-17-1 with a 35-save effort.  The BEARS finished the night 0-for-5 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.

The win snaps a five-game winless streak for the BEARS and moves their record to 30-19-4-5, and the record this season against Binghamton to 5-1-0-0.

The Springfield Falcons come to GIANT Center tomorrow for a 5:00 PM faceoff.  Tickets for this and all regular-season home games are on sale by calling (717) 508-BEAR, or by visiting ticketmaster.com.
