BEARS AND MONARCHS FACE OFF IN GAME 5 THURSDAY

May 20, 2010

HERSHEY and Manchester square off in a critical Game 5 in the 2010 Eastern Conference Finals Thursday night at Verizon Wireless Arena. After winning the first two games of the best-of-seven series, the BEARS have dropped back-to-back games in New Hampshire heading into Thursday’s showdown. Offense for HERSHEY proved to be problematic in Game 4 on Tuesday night, as Manchester posted a 1-0 win to even the series. Goaltender Jonathan Bernier made just 18 saves to earn the first whitewash of the series by either team, and Dwight King scored the game’s only goal at 9:11 of the second period. Michal Neuvirth took the hard luck loss for the BEARS, his second straight setback. Heading into Game 5, the BEARS have not picked up double digits in shots in a period since the first period of Game 3 Monday night. The series will shift back to Giant Center Saturday night for Game 6, with one team in the lead three games to two. Should a Game 7 be necessary, the BEARS and Monarchs will meet on Sunday along HERSHEYPARK Drive. Tickets for Game 6 are on sale at the Giant Center box office. Elsewhere in the Calder Cup playoffs, the Texas Stars won Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals Wednesday night 5-4 in overtime. Game 4 of that best-of-seven series will be Friday night at Cedar Park Center. Thursday’s Game 5 can be heard via the BEARS Radio Network (100.1 FM and www.Sportsjuice.com) beginning at 6:40 p.m. John Walton has the call of the action from New Hampshire.
