BEARS LOOK TO SWEEP OUT THE RATS THURSDAY

April 29, 2010

HERSHEY looks to advance to the 2010 Eastern Conference Finals Thursday night, taking on the Albany River Rats in Game 4 of the East Division Finals. Faceoff is at 7:00 p.m. A heart pounding thrill ride rallied the BEARS on Tuesday from three separate deficits as HERSHEY won in overtime 6-5 at Times Union Center. Jay Beagle scored the game-winner late in sudden death’s first overtime, giving the Chocolate and White its first lead of the game and a three games to none lead in the series. Andrew Gordon and Alexandre Giroux each scored their league-leading ninth goals of the Calder Cup playoffs in the triumph, and goaltender Braden Holtby survived two goals allowed in less than five minutes to begin the game to post his second victory of the 2010 postseason. No AHL team since 1989 has rallied from a three games to none deficit to win a playoff series, and Albany now has to pull off the trick against the league’s top team from the regular season. The River Rats also potentially stand 60 minutes away from the team’s final game in Albany after a 17-year run. The team is moving to Charlotte next year. There is one other game on Thursday’s Calder Cup playoff schedule. The Abbotsford Heat and the Hamilton Bulldogs square off in Game 1 of the North Division Finals at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Copps Coliseum. Abbotsford advanced to face Hamilton after upsetting the Rochester Americans in seven games on Tuesday. Thursday’s game can be heard via the BEARS Radio Network (100.1 FM and www.Sportsjuice.com) beginning at 6:40 p.m. John Walton has the call of the game from New York’s Capital District.
