ZEROING IN ON 60: BEARS IN SYRACUSE TUESDAY

April 5, 2010

HERSHEY begins a regular-season ending three-game road trip Tuesday night in search of win number 60. The BEARS take on the Syracuse Crunch at the War Memorial at OnCenter at 7:00 p.m. The BEARS extended an AHL wins record to 59 on the season Sunday, edging out the Norfolk Admirals 3-2 at Giant Center. Mathieu Perreault, Cody Eakin and Alexandre Giroux scored single goals to lead the offense, and goaltender Braden Holtby won his team-leading 24th game of the season. While HERSHEY has clinched the AHL’s best record and home ice throughout the 2010 Calder Cup playoffs, the team still does not know who it will face in the East Division Semi-Finals that begin Wednesday, April 14 at Giant Center. Heading into Tuesday’s action, the fifth place Bridgeport Sound Tigers have a two-point edge over the fourth place Norfolk Admirals for the right to play the Chocolate and White in the opening round of the postseason. The Atlantic Division crossover pits the East Division champion against the fifth place team in the Atlantic Division if that team has more points than the fourth place East Division club at season’s end. Both Bridgeport and Norfolk have three games remaining, with two of Norfolk’s three contests against the BEARS at Norfolk Scope this Friday and Saturday. No other Eastern Conference teams play on Tuesday night. Peoria is at Milwaukee Tuesday, while Manitoba visits Hamilton to take on the Bulldogs, Rockford is in Houston to meet the Aeros, and San Antonio takes on I-10 rival Texas in Austin on Tuesday. Tuesday’s game can be heard via the BEARS Radio Network (100.1 FM and www.Sportsjuice.com) beginning at 6:40 p.m. John Walton has the call of the action from central New York.
