BEARS LOOKING FOR THE CENTURY CLUB SUNDAY

March 7, 2010

HERSHEY looks to reach the 100-point plateau Sunday, as the Adirondack Phantoms come to call at Giant Center. Face-off is at 5:00 p.m. Goaltender Braden Holtby earned his second American Hockey League shutout, making 25 saves, as the BEARS defeated the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 4-0 Saturday night at Giant Center. Andrew Gordon and Keith Aucoin each scored their 30th goals of the season in the second period, and Alexandre Giroux added his 33rd of the year in the third period for good measure. The win was HERSHEY’S ninth in 11 games this season against the Pens, with one meeting left in the 12-game season series March 27. Adirondack enters play Sunday having lost back-to-back home games Friday and Saturday night. The Phantoms were blanked by Chris Holt and the Binghamton Senators 1-0 Saturday night, just 24 hours after allowing four third period goals in a 5-2 setback against Rochester. The Phantoms start the day in sixth place in the East Division standings, three points ahead of Binghamton and two points behind the fifth place Syracuse Crunch. With 17 games to play, Adirondack is five points behind Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for the final playoff spot. Center Jon Matsumoto leads the team in scoring with 48 points, Stefan Legein leads the team in goals with 23. Eight other games decorate the AHL schedule on Sunday, as 15 other teams try to join HERSHEY in the field of 16 for the 2010 Calder Cup playoffs. Bridgeport is on the road Sunday at Manchester in an Atlantic Division battle, while Lake Erie travels to Chicago to face the Wolves at Allstate Arena. Rochester plays Portland Sunday at HSBC Arena in Buffalo, Rockford is at San Antonio, and Hartford is in Toronto to take on the Marlies at Ricoh Coliseum. Lowell heads to Rhode Island Sunday to play Providence, Peoria is at Milwaukee, and Syracuse travels down I-81 to Binghamton to face the Senators. Binghamton looks for its third win in three days at Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. As of Sunday morning, only standing room tickets are available for the game. Call the Giant Center box office for the latest ticket information. Sunday’s game can be heard via the BEARS Radio Network (100.1 FM and www.Sportsjuice.com) beginning at 4:40 p.m. John Walton, Ed Coffey and Jim Jones have the call of the action from Giant Center.
