(HERSHEY, PA) â" One of the reasons Bryan Helmer is such a successful captain is that he is a leader both on and off the ice. At the beginning of the season he approached the Bears staff stating he wanted to purchase two season ticketsâ"out of his own pocketâ"and donate to the Penn State Childrenâ™s Hospital. Pepsi heard about the program and graciously offered to sponsor it and cover the cost of the tickets.
This program dubbed Helmerâ™s Heroes provides the opportunity for a patient at the Childrenâ™s Hospital along with their parent or guardian to experience the excitement of a hockey game. Once the game is over they have the option of going to the locker room and meeting Helmer. He then takes them on a tour of the locker room and gives them a commemorative item. âThe excitement and smiles on these kidsâ™ faces is what makes the program so successful. To be able to provide them with the opportunity to forget about things and just have fun and watch hockey is such a rewarding experience. Itâ™s all about the kidsâ states Helmer.
The feedback from the hospital has been nothing but positive, and both Helmer and Pepsi are proud to be associated with such a wonderful program.
Tickets are available for this weekendâ™s games. For tickets or more information, visit HersheyBears.com or call 717-508-BEAR.
