BEARS HOST PIRATES SUNDAY AT GIANT CENTER

October 25, 2009

The BEARS look to snap a two-game losing streak Sunday as the Portland Pirates come to town for a 5:00 p.m. start at Giant Center. Since the end of the 2004-05 season, the Binghamton Senators had lost 15 out of 16 games played at Giant Center against the Bears, but the B-Sens broke through Saturday with a 5-2 win over HERSHEY. The victory was the second for Binghamton in two seasons for the Senators, who did not win a single game at Giant Center in 2005-06 or 2006-07 against current Washington Capitals head coach Bruce Boudreau. It has been a rough start for Kevin Dineen’s club in 2009-10. Portland won its first road game in seven tries Saturday in defeating the Norfolk Admirals in Hampton Roads. Goals allowed have been the biggest problem for the Pirates this young season. No AHL team has allowed more goals so far in 2009-10 than Portland has. Even with a victory Saturday, the Pirates sit in last place in the eight-team Atlantic Division standings. Six other games are on the AHL docket this Sunday, as the Worcester Sharks travel to Hartford to take on the Wolf Pack at XL Center in downtown Hartford at 3:00 p.m. Springfield travels to Lowell to face the Devils at 4:00 p.m., Albany is at Bridgeport, Houston is at San Antonio, Abbotsford wraps up a two-game series with Grand Rapids and the Syracuse Crunch travel down the New York State Thruway to face the Rochester Americans.
