BEARS ANNOUNCE 2009-10 RADIO NETWORK
JOHN WALTON RETURNS FOR HIS EIGHTH SEASON AS âVOICE OF THE BEARSâ ON FLAGSHIP STATION WQIC-FM IN LEBANON AND SPORTSJUICE.COM
HERSHEY â" The 2009 Calder Cup Champion HERSHEY BEARS announced today broadcasting plans for the upcoming 2009-10 season. The club also announced the return of longtime radio voice John Walton for the upcoming campaign. The announcement was made today by BEARS President/GM Doug Yingst.
Walton, 36, enters his eighth season behind the microphone in HERSHEY, one of the longest tenured broadcasters in the American Hockey League. He has been high above rinkside to call Calder Cup championships for the BEARS in both 2006 and 2009, and has broadcast three of the last four Calder Cup Finals.
A native of Columbus, Ohio, Walton will call his 900th American Hockey League game during the upcoming 2009-10 season, third most among active AHL broadcasters. Known for his popular âGood Morning, Good Afternoon and Good Nightâ catchphrase after a BEARS victory, Walton will again be anchoring HERSHEYâ™S radio coverage on WQIC-FM (100.1) this upcoming season. The 2009-10 campaign will mark the fifth consecutive season that WQIC has served as HERSHEYâ™S flagship radio station.

The BEARS will open the 2009 preseason on Friday, September 25 against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at 7:00 p.m. at GIANT Center, and will also host the Norfolk Admirals in exhibition play on Sunday, September 27 at 5:00 p.m. Tickets for both games are on sale now at the GIANT Center box office, or by calling (717) 534-3911. The BEARS will officially open its defense of the Calder Cup on Saturday, October 3, hosting the Admirals at GIANT Center in the 2009-10 regular season opener. Face-off is at 7:00 p.m.
