BEARS WIN AT NORFOLK WEDNESDAY 3-2

January 7, 2009

JOUDREY NETS GAME WINNER AS BEARS BEAT NORFOLK By: John Walton The BEARS completed a five-game road trip Wednesday with a stirring third period comeback and a 3-2 regulation victory over the Norfolk Admirals in Hampton Roads. HERSHEY'S reigning AHL player of the week picked up right where he left off in Worcester Sunday. Alexandre Giroux scored his 24th goal of the season just 3:53 into the first period with the BEARS on the power play, giving the Chocolate and White a 1-0 lead at the end of one period. Norfolk was able to fire 14 shots at Simeon Varlamov, while Mike McKenna stopped eight of the nine shots he faced. After a bizarre start to the second period that was delayed 11 minutes by a power outage and begun in less than perfect lighting, the BEARS and Admirals battled back and forth until late in the period. Brandon Bochenski scored his 12th goal of the season off a deflection in front of Varlamov at 18:24. The two teams went to the dressing room after two tied at a goal apiece. The third period provided some high drama, and a BEARS come from behind win. With the game tied at one, Justin Keller scored his fifth goal of the season for the Admirals to lift Norfolk to a 2-1 lead late. But HERSHEY would rally and win in regulation with a pair of goals. Kyle Wilson picked up his 16th goal of the season at 10:51 to tie the game at two, and Andrew Joudrey scored his third goal of the year at 14:51. Joudrey's strike against McKenna and the Admirals proved to the game-winner, as HERSHEY won for the 27th time this season in 37 games. Varlamov won his 14th game of the season in 17 decisions. Notes: Keith Aucoin and Chris Bourque were both named to the Planet USA AHL All-Star team Wednesday, joining teammates Bryan Helmer and Alexandre Giroux at the AHL All-Star Classic in Worcester January 25-26. Bob Woods and Mark French will coach the Canadian AHL All-Star team. HERSHEY will welcome the Houston Aeros to GIANT Center for the first time ever this Friday at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at the GIANT Center box office or by calling (717) 534-3911.
