01/04/2009 - The BEARS wrap up a swing through New England and play the fourth game of their current five-game road trip Sunday in Worcester against the Sharks. Face-off at the DCU Center in downtown Worcester is at 4:05 p.m.
HERSHEY'S coaching staff faces some interesting irony in Worcester Sunday afternoon, for if the BEARS earn a point in Worcester today, Bob Woods and Mark French will be returning to Worcester at the end of January. The AHL All-Star Classic will be held at the DCU Center January 25-26, and Sunday is the league mandated cut-off for having the AHL team with the best winning percentage earn the honor of sending their coaches to the game. If the BEARS win, lose in overtime or the shootout Sunday, Woods and French will coach the Canadian AHL All-Stars. They would be coaching their own captain, as Bryan Helmer was named by the AHL to captain the Canadian squad last month.
The Chocolate and White's team business today has the club chasing its 26th victory of the season in just its 36th game of the season. Approaching the halfway point of the season next Sunday in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, the team is on pace to break the franchise win record of 51, set during the 2006-07 season. HERSHEY would be halfway to the record with a victory Sunday.
The BEARS are the only East Division team in action Sunday, playing in one of just four AHL games. Manchester plays at Lowell Sunday, while Springfield visits Portland and Houston skates at Providence. HERSHEY concludes four games in five nights Sunday only to play in another four games in five nights stretch starting Wednesday in Norfolk against the Admirals.
Sunday's game can be heard via the BEARS Radio Network (100.1 FM, 1490 AM, Sportsjuice.com, AHLLive.com) beginning with the pregame show at 3:45 p.m. John Walton has the call of the action from the DCU Center in Worcester. HERSHEY'S next home game is coming up on Friday, January 9 against Houston at GIANT Center. Tickets are on sale now at the GIANT Center box office, or by calling (717) 534-3911.
