MORE PLAYERS RECALLED, BEARS HOST SENATORS SATURDAY

December 26, 2008

With a fresh batch of roster moves made after the holidays, the BEARS take on the Binghamton Senators Saturday night at GIANT Center. Face-off is at 7:00 p.m. With injuries in Washington again taking a huge toll, the Capitals recalled Andrew Gordon, Alexandre Giroux, Bryan Helmer and Simeon Varlamov on Friday. HERSHEY meanwhile recalled goaltenders Michal Neuvirth and Bobby Goepfert from South Carolina. The pair was needed to replace Varlamov and Daren Machesney, who is with Team Canada this week at the Spengler Cup in Switzerland. The BEARS head into weekend action with eight players on recall to the Capitals and three more sidelined due to injury. Despite all the roster turmoil, HERSHEY is chasing another historical milestone this weekend at GIANT Center. A win Saturday against the Senators would tie the 1963-64 club for the longest home winning streak in franchise history. The 2008-09 edition has won 10 straight on home ice, and can match the 11 in a row put up from December 21, 1963 to January 29, 1964. Two wins this weekend, and the current edition of the Chocolate and White can put a new mark in the record book. After missing the last two games due to immigration issues, the BEARS are expected to officially welcome Kip Brennan back to the lineup this weekend. Brennan was signed for the balance of the year on December 14, but had to clear AHL waivers returning from Europe prior to clearing immigration. Brennan will wear number 39 in his second tour of duty with HERSHEY. Around the East Division Saturday, the Albany River Rats host the Rochester Americans at Times Union Center at 5:00 p.m. Elsewhere, Bridgeport is in Wilkes-Barre to face the Penguins at 7:05 p.m. and Philadelphia is in Norfolk to play the Admirals at 7:15 p.m. Saturday’s game can be heard via the BEARS Radio Network (100.1 FM, 1490 AM, Sportsjuice.com, AHLLive.com) beginning with the pregame show at 6:40 p.m. John Walton and Ed Coffey have the call of the action. Tickets are still available for Saturday’s game at the GIANT Center box office, or by calling (717) 534-3911.
