DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS, LOOKING FOR 12 STRAIGHT

December 11, 2008

The BEARS look to extend a franchise record 11-game winning streak Thursday, while at the same time playing its first-ever regular season game in the state of Texas. HERSHEY takes on the San Antonio Rampage Thursday night at AT&T Center at 8:00 p.m. The Rampage carry a modest four-game winning streak of their own into Thursday’s game, its longest of 2008-09. The streak comes on the heels of a 17-game losing streak however, in which San Antonio failed to win a game in the month of November. Conversely, the team has not lost a game in December heading into Thursday’s Lone Star State showdown HERSHEY’S roster got a boost Wednesday with the news that defenseman Bryan Helmer and center Keith Aucoin have been returned to the club. Alexandre Giroux remains on recall to Washington, and scored the game-winning goal Wednesday for the Capitals against the Boston Bruins at Verizon Center. While it’s the first time that HERSHEY has played a regular season game in Texas, it’s not the first time the club has set foot in the state. The BEARS and Houston Aeros met in the 2002 Western Conference Semi-Finals, a series that Houston swept four games to none. HERSHEY played the first two games of that series in Houston on April 26 and 27, 2002. The game in San Antonio represents the only time in 2008-09 that the BEARS will play a game on a Thursday night. No other teams in the East Division play Thursday, although Quad City is at Houston, Iowa is at Rockford and Peoria is at Hamilton in other AHL action Thursday. Thursday’s game can be heard via the BEARS Radio Network (100.1 FM, 1490 AM, Sportsjuice.com, AHLLive.com) beginning with the pregame show at 7:40 p.m. eastern time. John Walton has the call of the action from San Antonio. The trip continues with a game in Houston against the Aeros Saturday night at 8:35 p.m. eastern time.
