The BEARS dominated the Phantoms in the first period, scoring four goals on 15 shots and not allowing the visiting team a shot on goal until nearly 17 minutes into play. Graham Mink picked up his 11th of the year just seven seconds into the man advantage at 4:12. Keith Aucoin and Giroux tallied the assists. Giroux netted his 15th of the season as he lifted a pass from Mink past Philadelphia goaltender Scott Munroe at 8:09. Aucoin and Mink would set up Giroux for his second of the night at 13:16. The BEARS held a four-goal advantage after one.
HERSHEY continued to barrage Munroe through the second period, piling on three more goals. Darren Reid scored his first goal of the season at 2:33, assisted by Andrew Joudrey.
