Despite a lineup missing four players due to injury and six due to call-ups, the BEARS defeated the Albany River Rats 3-2 Friday at Times Union Center. The victory enabled HERSHEY to win its league leading 16th game of the season.
Albany would score the only goal in the first period when Jakub Petruzalek scored his sixth goal of the season. The marker came at 8:09 of the first, and the River Rats led 1-0 after 20 minutes. Into the second period, HERSHEY'S first line would strike at the 4:30 mark to knot the game at one apiece. Alexandre Giroux scored his 14th goal of the season from Andrew Gordon and Keith Aucoin. The game stayed tied until late in the second period when the Rats again took a one-goal lead. Harrison Reed was credited with his second goal of the season when a Brett Carson shot careened off of Reed's skate into the back of the net. Albany led the game 2-1 after two periods.
Down a goal with a period to go, the BEARS again found a way to win. Kyle Wilson tied the game at 10:06 when he scored his eighth goal of the season from Sean Collins and Mathieu Perreault. HERSHEY tried to win it in regulation with a power play in the final two minutes, but could not score. The game moved into overtime, where Francois Bouchard scored his seventh of the season at 2:25 of sudden death. The BEARS won for the seventh consecutive game, extending a season high. Simeon Varlamov won his eighth game of the season, making 18 saves.
