PHILLY RALLY DOWNS BEARS SATURDAY

November 1, 2008

PHANTOMS RALLY TO DOWN BEARS SATURDAY By: John Walton The BEARS scored first Saturday, but the Philadelphia Phantoms rallied to win 5-2 at GIANT Center. The win was the third straight victory for Philadelphia, while the BEARS dropped their second game in the last three. After several near-misses in the last few games, Kyle Wilson opened the scoring Saturday night with his first goal of the season. The goal at 1:17 was assisted by former Phantom Darren Reid and Sami Lepisto and HERSHEY carried that one-goal advantage into first intermission. Philadelphia managed to score three times in the second period to HERSHEY’S one tally, and took a 3-2 lead into the final period. Boyd Kane scored all three for the Phantoms in the middle period to notch a hat trick against his former team, while all the BEARS could do was a single goal from Jay Beagle at 9:31. The Phantoms picked up two more in the third period with Claude Giroux at 4:19 and an empty net goal from Patrick Maroon at 18:12. Daren Machesney suffered the loss, allowing five goals on 26 shots. Special teams continue to plague the BEARS this season. HERSHEY allowed three goals in six Phantom power play chances, while the home team was 0-6. Notes: The BEARS close out four games in five nights on Sunday with a visit to Philadelphia to play the Phantoms. Face-off at the Wachovia Spectrum is 5:05 p.m. The game is the start of a five-game road trip that will keep HERSHEY away from GIANT Center until November 15. All five games on the trek (two in Philadelphia, single games in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Bridgeport and Albany) are all East Division match-ups. The BEARS have scored the most goals in the AHL this season, and have also given up the most goals so far in 2008-09. Dating back to Wednesday’s game in Hamilton, HERSHEY is 0-21 on the power play. Bears Radio Network Three Stars of the Game 1. Boyd Kane (Former BEARS captain scores three to lead the way) 2. J-S Aubin (Philly goaltender settled down after early goal, made 30 saves) 3. Kyle Wilson (Scored first goal of the season)
