NATHAN WALKER REASSIGNED TO HERSHEY

December 16, 2014

HERSHEY, Pa. – The Hershey Bears announced today that forward Nathan Walker has been reassigned to the club from the ECHL’s South Carolina Stingrays.  The announcement was made by Bears president/general manager Doug Yingst.

Walker, 20, skated in two games with South Carolina last week.  He earned his first ECHL assist on December 13 against Greenville, and followed that up with his first ECHL goal – the game-winning goal – on December 14 at Gwinnett.  Walker earned third-star honors in the game.

The 5-8, 186-pound forward has recorded four points (one goal, three assists), 21 penalty minutes and a plus-two rating in 23 games with the Bears this season.  Adding his total onto his AHL rookie year of 2013-14, Walker has produced 15 points (six goals, nine assists) in 66 games playing in Chocolatetown.

Born in Cardiff, Wales and growing up in Sydney, Australia for most of his life, Walker became the first-ever native of Australia selected in the NHL Entry Draft when the Capitals chose him in the third round (89th overall) this past summer.  His AHL debut on October 5, 2013 marked the first time an Australian played in the American Hockey League.

Walker also played with the USHL’s Youngstown Phantoms in 2012-13, notching 27 points (seven goals, 20 assists).  He also tallied 10 points (four goals, six assists) over parts of two seasons with Vitkovice HC (Czech).

Hershey visits the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on Friday, December 19 at 7:05 PM.  The game will be televised live to central Pennsylvania viewers on ABC-27.2, Comcast channel 246, Verizon Fios channel 461, Blue Ridge Cable channel 152 and Kuhn Communications channel 67.  Voice of the Bears Scott Stuccio will call the play-by-play alongside ABC-27 sports director Gregg Mace.

Fans may also listen beginning at 6:25 PM on WQIC-FM 100.1, WTKT-AM 1460 and iHeart Radio (1460 AM) with Darrell Henry on the call.

The team returns home to host the Springfield Falcons on Saturday, December 20 at 7:00 PM.  The third class of the Hershey Bears Hockey Club Hall of Fame will be inducted in a pre-game ceremony.  All fans will receive a commemorative Hall of Fame chocolate bar courtesy of the Hershey Company.  Tickets for this and all remaining home games are on sale at the GIANT Center box office, by calling (717) 508-BEAR or online at TicketMaster.com.
