Boyd Re-Assigned to Bears

March 23, 2018

The Washington Capitals have re-assigned forward Travis Boyd to the Hershey Bears. The announcement was made by Washington's senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan.

Boyd, 24, ranks second on the Bears in goals (15), assists (29), and points (44) in 56 games. He has also posted 24 power play points, including 17 power play assists. Boyd has collected 14 multi-point games this season, including becoming the first player in the AHL to score four goals in a game this season on Feb. 16 at Laval.

The native of Hopkins, Minn. has played in 210 regular season games with Hershey in his career, scoring 162 points (53 goals, 109 assists). He had a sensational 2016-17 campaign, leading the Bears with a career-best 63 points (16 goals, 47 assists). He skated in the 2017 AHL All-Star Classic, was Hershey's team MVP, and landed on the AHL's Second All-Star Team. The forward also has 17 points in 33 playoff games with the Bears, scoring one of the most memorable goals in recent playoff history when he struck for the overtime winner in Game 7 of the 2016 Atlantic Division Finals vs. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Boyd made his NHL debut against the San Jose Sharks on Dec. 4 and has played in seven games for the Capitals this season, notching one assist. His first NHL point came during his recent recall as he assisted on an Alex Ovechkin goal on Mar. 18 vs. Philadelphia. The product of the University of Minnesota was drafted with the Capitals’ sixth-round pick in the 2011 draft.

The Bears return to action on Saturday afternoon in Hartford. Hershey visits the Wolf Pack at 3 p.m. The game may be heard on the Bears Radio Network and viewed on AHLLive.com.
