BROAD STREET TO CHOCOLATE AVE: Tonight marks the Hershey Bears first outdoor game in exactly five years, the club’s third in franchise history, and second at Hersheypark Stadium. The Bears stepped outside for the first time in franchise history on Jan. 6, 2012 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia versus the Adirondack Phantoms. In front of an AHL record crowd of 45,653, the Phantoms topped the Bears, 4-3 in overtime. Chris Bourque and Garrett Mitchell are the only current Bears to have played in that game. Head Coach Troy Mann was behind the bench as the assistant coach under Mark French.

HERSHEYPARK HOCKEY: The 2018 Capital BlueCross Outdoor Classic is the second outdoor game to ever be hosted by the Hershey Bears. The last outdoor game in Hershey was Jan. 20, 2013, against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. In front of a crowd of 17,311 at Hersheypark Stadium, Paul Thompson scored 1:19 into sudden-death overtime to lead the Penguins past the Bears, 2-1. Current Bear, Zach Sill, played in the game for the Penguins and earned the secondary assist on Riley Holzapfel’s game tying goal at 7:47 of the third period. Garrett Mitchell is the lone member of Hershey’s current roster who played in the 2013 Capital BlueCross Outdoor Classic.

C-B 700: Tonight marks the 700th career American Hockey League regular season game for Chris Bourque. Through 699 AHL games, Bourque has tallied 680 points (231 goals, 449 assists). In addition to the regular season, Bourque has skated in 133 career Calder Cup Playoff games and notched an additional 117 points (35 goals, 82 assists). The native of Boston, Massachusetts and soon-to-be United States Olympian contributed to Calder Cups in 2006, 2009, and 2010 with Hershey. Currently, Bourque has 41 points (12 goals, 29 assists) in the 41 games he has appeared in this season.

LAST TIME OUT: Tonight is Hershey’s first game since Wednesday after suffering a 5-4 shootout setback to the Springfield Thunderbirds at the MassMutual Center. The Bears jumped out with early goals from Wayne Simpson and Anthony Peluso, but the Thunderbirds rattled off four unanswered tallies and chased Vitek Vanecek from the game in the second period. Down two goals in the third period, Dustin Gazley and Tyler Graovac scored to force extra time. Hershey lost their fourth of five shootouts on the season and fell, 5-4. The Bears outshot Springfield, 37-29. The same night, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms yielded four unanswered goals to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and dropped a 4-1 decision. Phil Myers had his team’s lone goal of the contest at 15:11 of the first period.

THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN:  Last night marked the Capital BlueCross Outdoor Classic Alumni Game between the Hershey Bears and the Philadelphia Flyers. Hershey won 9-5 thanks to two goals and an assist from Graham Mink and Mike McHugh. Among the others who returned to Chocolate Town for the Alumni Game were 2009 Calder Cup Champions Greg Amadio, Dean Arsene, Bryan Helmer, Mink, and Andrew Joudrey. All of the aforementioned men have a long history versus the Phantoms, and they played in the last ever regular season game at the Wachovia Spectrum against the then Philadelphia Phantoms on Apr. 10, 2009. Philadelphia won that game, 5-2. Both the Bears and Phantoms would later meet in the first round of the 2009 Calder Cup Playoffs, where the Bears would sweep the best-of-seven series, four games to none.
