HERSHEY BEARS NEWS AND NOTES

OUT OF THE DEN, INTO THE WILDERNESS: The 2018 Capital BlueCross Outdoor Classic comes exactly five years after Hershey last hosted an outdoor game. On Jan. 20, 2013, Hershey celebrated its’ 75th anniversary season by hosting the 2013 Capital BlueCross AHL Outdoor Classic at Hersheypark Stadium. In front of 17,311 fans, Hershey fell to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, 2-1, in overtime. This year’s game is the third outdoor game in which Hershey has participated, and the second time Hershey has battled the Phantoms outdoors. The Bears played the Adirondack Phantoms at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on January 6, 2012 in front of an AHL record 45,653 fans. The Bears fell in overtime in that contest, 4-3.

OUTDOOR GAME VETS: Three members of Hershey’s roster have previously played in outdoor games involving the Chocolate and White. Veteran Chris Bourque played in the game in Philadelphia in 2012, scoring just 28 seconds into the game and adding two assists. Captain Garrett Mitchell played in both the game in Philadelphia in 2012 and in Hershey in 2013. Forward Zach Sill also played in Hershey in 2013, but as a member of the visitors, registering an assist for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

100 FOR TRAVIS: Forward Travis Boyd hit a milestone in Sunday’s loss to Lehigh Valley. Boyd tallied the secondary assist on Chris Bourque’s first period goal, giving Boyd his 100th assist in his Hershey, and AHL career. The forward ranks second on the Bears in points (28) and assists (20) this year.

DEJA VU: Hershey lost all three games they played last week by identical 2-1 scores. The Bears did earn standings points for falling in overtime to Springfield last Wednesday, and in the extra-session vs. the Phantoms on Sunday. Hershey has scored just one goal in 11 games this season, and tallied two or less goals in 20 games this season.

HOME COOKING: Despite going winless at home last week, Hershey is on a six-game point streak at Giant Center, going 3-0-3-0.
