O'Brien Scores in 4-1 Loss at Providence
November 19, 2017
The Hershey Bears dropped a 4-1 decision to the Providence Bruins on Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Providence's win snapped a four-game losing streak, and Liam O'Brien scored the lone goal in the contest for the Chocolate and White.Providence opened the scoring courtesy of a Pheonix Copley miscue behind his own net. Only 1:43 into the game, the Hershey goaltender fielded the puck behind his own net and turned it over to the opposition. Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson intercepted the pass and scored into an open net to give the Bruins the lead.
On Hershey's second power play chance of the night, the Bears drew even. At 11:23, Liam O'Brien crashed the net and jammed in a rebound off a Riley Barber shot. Chris Bourque earned the secondary assist on the play, adding to his American Hockey League leading point total of 25.
Providence finished the game scoring three unanswered tallies, with two coming in the middle period. At 8:52, the Bruins capitalized on a broken play immediately following an offensive zone faceoff. After the puck was thrown on goal from the point, it took a fortunate bounce right to Providence forward Colby Cave. He potted the loose puck passed a scrambling Copley for his second goal of the season, and the eventual game-winner.
Hershey's Hubert Labrie was called for tripping with 22 seconds remaining in the second period, and the Bruins took advantage at an opportune time. With six seconds left in the middle frame, Providence forward Austin Czarnik bolted a high shot past Copley short-side to give Providence a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes.
At 14:51 in the third period, Providence's Colton Hargrove put the game out of reach, scoring after beating Hershey defender Paul Geiger to the puck, and dancing around Copley to make it 4-1 Providence.
The loss snapped a three game winning streak away from Giant Center for the Bears. Concluding the weekend, Hershey grabbed four of six standings points on the week for the third time in four weeks. Hershey was outshot 20-18 in the loss.
The Bears return to the ice this Wednesday for their annual Thanksgiving Eve game, against the Springfield Thunderbirds. All fans are welcome onto the ice for the post game Sara Lee & Canteen Vending Turkey Shoot. The puck drops at 7 p.m. and ticket information is available at HersheyBears.com.
