Bears Unveil Season-Opening Roster

October 5, 2017

The Hershey Bears announced today the club's roster for the opening night of the 2017-18 season. Hershey will open its 80th Anniversary Season with a roster of 27 players, including 15 forwards, eight defensemen, and four goaltenders. The club drops the puck on the new campaign this Saturday, Oct. 7 on the road versus the rival Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

Hershey's Opening Night Roster is as follows:

Forwards (15): John Albert, Riley Barber, Mathias Bau, Chris Bourque, Travis Boyd, Dustin Gazley, Hampus Gustafsson, Jeremy Langlois, Garrett Mitchell, Mason Mitchell, Liam O'Brien, Anthony Peluso, Chandler Stephenson, Zach Sill, Wayne Simpson

Defense (8): Kris Bindulis, Madison Bowey, Connor Hobbs, Lucas Johansen, Hubert Labrie, Tyler Lewington, Jonas Siegenthaler, Colby Williams

Goaltenders (4): Adam Carlson, Pheonix Copley, Parker Milner, Vitek Vanecek

Hershey's opening night roster features 17 players who skated with the club during the 2016-17 season, including Travis Boyd, who led the Bears with 63 points last year. Veteran and five-time AHL All-Star Chris Bourque returns to Hershey for his ninth season with the Bears. He is coming off a 60-point season and is the AHL's active leading scorer with 639 career points. Team captain Garrett Mitchell also returns up front and will wear the "C" for the third consecutive year. Goaltenders Pheonix Copley and Vitek Vanecek will once again provide Troy Mann's squad with a strong last line of defense.

Rookies on the roster include forwards Hampus Gustafsson and Mason Mitchell, as well as defenders Kris Bindulis, Connor Hobbs, and Lucas Johansen, as well as goaltender Adam Carlson. Johansen was a first round selection, 28th overall, in the 2016 NHL Draft by the Washington Capitals, while Hobbs scored 85 points, including 31 goals, in a record-setting season with the WHL's Regina Pats last season.

Hershey's season opener comes on Saturday at the PPL Center in the first of 12 meetings with rival Lehigh Valley. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. and the game may be heard on the Bears Radio Network as Zack Fisch has the call from Allentown.
