Carey Named CCM/AHL Player of Week

March 20, 2017

(Hershey, PA- March 20, 2017)-The American Hockey League announced today that forward Paul Carey of the Hershey Bears hockey team has been selected as the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Mar. 19, 2017. In honor of this, Carey will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming home game.

In three games last week, Carey collected eight points (six goals, two assists) as Hershey went a perfect 3-0-0 and moved into third place in the Atlantic Division.

The native of Boston, Mass., opened the weekend with a goal and an assist in Hershey’s 4-3 overtime victory over the Hartford Wolf Pack on Friday. Carey followed up that performance with the best game of his professional career in the rematch with the Wolf Pack on Saturday. The forward scored four goals, including the game-winning marker, as Hershey claimed a 6-4 victory. Carey became the first Hershey skater to score four goals since Mathieu Perreault accomplished the feat on Feb. 27, 2010.

The fifth-year pro completed the weekend with a two-point afternoon in Hershey’s 3-1 victory at Bridgeport on Sunday.  Carey scored a power play goal in the second period, and assisted on the game-winning goal with 1:23 left in regulation.

Carey is in the midst of an eight-game scoring streak, positing 13 points (eight goals, five assists) in that stretch. Earlier this season, Carey scored in 19 straight games, a mark good for the third longest streak in Hershey franchise history. Carey is having a career year, and ranks fifth in the AHL in scoring with 55 points (24 goals, 31 assists) in 54 games with Hershey. His 24 goals are tied with Christian Thomas for the team lead.

Carey was a 2007 draft choice by the Colorado Avalanche and has one goal and one assist in 30 career NHL contests with Washington and Colorado, including four games with the Capitals this season.

Hershey returns to action on Wednesday night versus the Binghamton at the Giant Center. It’s Hersheypark Pass Night as the puck drops at 7 p.m.
