NO LOVE TONIGHT AS BEARS DUMP PIRATES

February 14, 2015

HERSHEY, Pa. – Stan Galiev and Dustin Gazley each scored a pair of goals and Philipp Grubauer made 28 saves to win his eighth consecutive start, helping the Hershey Bears cruise to a 5-2 victory over the Portland Pirates on Saturday night in front of 10,718 fans at GIANT Center.

The first period would end in a 1-1 deadlock thanks to a pair of breakaway goals.  After killing off two Portland power plays, Hershey got on the board first when Kris Newbury spotted Gazley in the neutral zone with a pass from the Bears’ left circle.  Gazley deked Pirates goaltender Louis Domingue to the forehand and tucked a shot inside the right post from in close for his seventh goal of the season.

With time winding down in the period, Darian Dziurzynski jumped through the neutral zone with speed and caught a perfect head-man pass from Dylan Reese at the Hershey blue line. Grubauer got a small piece of his shot from the slot, but the puck dropped in at 18:30 for the equalizer.

Gazley was set up on a similar breakaway by Mike Moore early in the second.  This time, he carried into the left circle and slid the puck under a Domingue poke check at 2:35, giving Hershey a 2-1 lead.

Galiev made it 3-1 with his 11th power play goal of the season.  Set up in the left circle, he got all of a one-timer fed to him by Connor Carrick and beat Domingue at 5:14.

Late in the period, Galiev took a pass sent down the left wall by Chris Conner.  He then walked the goal line right toward the crease and tucked a shot under Domingue at 17:14, putting the Bears ahead by a 4-1 count.

Joel Broda opened up a 5-1 advantage just 32 seconds into the third period.  Liam O’Brien stole the puck just outside the offensive blue line, and transitioned into a three-on-two rush.  O’Brien sent a pass to the left circle, where Broda grabbed it and fired it into the net off the crossbar for his fourth of the season.

Corey Trivino finished off the scoring with five minutes gone by in the third.  Henrik Samuelsson took off on a two-on-one rush and backhanded a pass across the slot.  Trivino one-timed it past Grubauer for a goal that ultimately would be the last of the night.

Grubauer’s eighth consecutive win improved his record to 19-9-4 on the year.  Domingue made 23 saves and fell to 8-5-1.

The Bears extended their point streak to a league-long 12 games (10-0-1-1) and improved to 29-13-5-2 (65 points) on the season.

The Bears return home next Saturday, February 21 with a 7:00 PM faceoff against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Individual tickets for this and all remaining home games are available at the GIANT Center box office, online at TicketMaster.com or by calling 717-508-BEAR.
