AHL, BEARS RELEASE 2014-2015 REGULAR SEASON SCHEDULE

August 27, 2014

HERSHEY, Pa. – The Hershey Bears Hockey Club, in conjunction with the American Hockey League, announced today the schedule of games comprising the 2014-2015 regular season.  The announcement was made by Bears President/GM Doug Yingst.

The Bears will immediately hit the road for the beginning of the club’s 77th season of play in the AHL, and five games will be played before the team opens at GIANT Center on Saturday, October 25 – a 7:00 PM matchup against the rival Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Hershey begins its quest for a league-best 12th Calder Cup with a pair of games at Norfolk Scope.  The Norfolk Admirals, who claimed the Eastern Conference’s eighth and final playoff spot last spring, will host the Bears on Saturday, October 11 at 7:15 PM and Monday, October 13 at 6:05 PM.  Taking their place together behind the Hershey bench will be new head coach Troy Mann and assistant coach Bryan Helmer, who – as assistant coach and second-year team captain - were instrumental in helping the Bears capture their 11th league title in the 2009-2010 season.

The Bears will then play every member of the Eastern Conference at least once, and will not face a Western Conference opponent this season.  A Pennsylvania rivalry will renew when the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, new top developmental affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, host Hershey on Friday, October 24 with a 7:05 PM faceoff at the brand-new PPL Center in Allentown, PA.

The reigning champions of the Eastern Conference, the St. John’s IceCaps, play their two games in Chocolatetown on Sunday, November 23 and on Sunday, November 30, with both starts set for 5:00 PM.  Those two contests are in the middle of a six-game homestand for the Bears, the club’s longest of the season.  The Bears will not visit Newfoundland for the rematch until Friday and Saturday, April 10 and 11.

On Saturday, December 13, the Bears will host the Binghamton Senators – a date that begins a stretch of 12 consecutive Saturday games at GIANT Center.  A very special night is planned one week later, on December 20, when the Bears take on the Springfield Falcons.  Prior to faceoff, the third annual Hershey Bears Hockey Club Hall of Fame induction will take place, honoring more names in Hershey’s rich hockey history.

For the first time since 2011 – and for the first time on the road since 2008 – the Bears will play on New Year’s Eve, in a special 3:05 PM faceoff against the Penguins at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.

Shortly after the 2015 AHL All-Star Break in late January, the Bears will play their annual Super Bowl Sunday contest on February 1, a special 2:00 PM faceoff against the Norfolk Admirals.

The Bears play each three-day weekend in February, and later prepare for their longest stretch of games away from home – also a six-game span.  The club travels to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton beginning on Wednesday, March 11, and the set of games concludes with a pair of contests against the Portland Pirates on Friday and Saturday, March 20 and 21 – the first time since the 2012-2013 season that the Pirates will play in their newly-renovated Cross Insurance Arena.

The Bears will wrap up both the road portion and home portion of the regular season with games against Lehigh Valley.  The road schedule ends on Tuesday, April 14, and the home finale is set for Saturday, April 18.

In all, a majority of the Hershey Bears’ home games will take place on weekends (35 of the 38 to be played on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays).  The club will also play one Tuesday game at home and two on Wednesdays.

The complete 2014-2015 Hershey Bears regular-season schedule follows, including start times and opponents, and games by division, month and day of week.

With special thanks to Hershey Entertainment & Resorts Company, the popular HERSHEYPARK Pass Nights will return, with a fourth giveaway night added for the 2014-2015 season.  All fans in attendance on the following nights will receive one complimentary pass to HERSHEYPARK (valid through July 31, 2015): Sunday, November 16 vs. W-B/Scranton; Friday, December 5 vs. Bridgeport; Sunday, February 1 vs. Norfolk; and Wednesday, April 1 vs. Worcester.

Information on other promotional nights and special theme nights will be released in the coming days.  An on-sale date for individual game tickets will also be announced in the near future.
