12/05/2013 - The Washington Capitals have recalled defenseman Patrick Wey from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL) and re-assigned defenseman Tyson Strachan to Hershey, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.

The Pittsburgh native was drafted by Washington in the fourth round, 115th overall, in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Wey will wear No. 56 with the Capitals and will be available to the media following today’s practice.

Strachan, 29, made his Capitals debut on Nov. 15 against Detroit. The Melfort, Saskatchewan, native played in nine games with Washington this season. Strachan has registered four assists and 22 penalty minutes in 11 games with the Bears this season. In 227 career AHL games, he has earned 72 points (12 goals, 60 assists) and 292 penalty minutes. Strachan spent four seasons at Ohio State University and was originally drafted by Carolina in the fifth round (137th overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. The Capitals signed Strachan as a free agent on July 8, 2013.

Also announced today, defenseman Brett Flemming has been reassigned to the Hershey Bears from the ECHL’s Reading Royals, while defenseman Michal Cajkovsky has been recalled from Reading.  The announcements were made by Bears President/GM Doug Yingst.

Flemming, 22, is one of four players to appear in all 16 games for the Royals this season.  He has recorded four points (one goal, three assists) and nine penalty minutes to date.

The 5-11, 184-pound native of Regina, Saskatchewan helped the Royals to the franchise’s first Kelly Cup championship last spring, leading all Reading defensemen with five playoff goals, and finishing tied for fifth in postseason scoring with 12 points in the Royals’ 22-game run to the title.  In the 2012-13 regular season, Flemming posted 15 points (two goals, 13 assists), 77 penalty minutes and a plus-four rating in 50 games.

Flemming also appeared in 11 games with the Bears last season, registering one assist.

Prior to turning pro, Flemming played in 147 games in his junior career with the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors (OHL), totaling 105 points (nine goals, 96 assists) and 288 penalty minutes.  His plus-60 efficiency rating in 2009-10 set a Majors franchise record and led the OHL, the same season in which he helped Mississauga to a berth in the Memorial Cup finals.

Flemming was originally selected by the Washington Capitals in the fifth round (145th overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Cajkovsky (chuh-KAHV-skee), 21, has appeared in 13 games with the Royals, and has posted five points (one goal, four assists) and six penalty minutes.  Prior to starting the season, Cajkovsky participated in the Washington Capitals’ summer development camp in July.

The 6’3, 208-pound native of Bratislava, Slovakia finished his third junior season and second with the OHL’s Ottawa 67’s in 2012-13.  In 66 games, Cajkovsky’s 10 goals, 24 assists and 34 points all ranked second among Ottawa defensemen.

Cajkovsky recorded 55 points (13 goals, 42 assists) and 209 penalty minutes over two seasons with Ottawa, and added 15 points (four goals, 11 assists) in 67 games with the OHL’s Kingston Frontenacs in 2010-11.
