DiSALVATORE, POTULNY NAMED AS BEARS ALTERNATE CAPTAINS

December 4, 2012

HERSHEY, Pa.– It was announced today that forwards Jon DiSalvatore and Ryan Potulny have been named alternate captains for the HERSHEY BEARS for the remainder of the 2012-2013 season.  The announcement was made by HERSHEY BEARS President/GM Doug Yingst and head coach Mark French.

DiSalvatore, 31, ranks tied for second on the BEARS in scoring with 14 points (six goals, eight assists) through 21 games.  In addition to his work on the ice, DiSalvatore was a big factor in promoting two separate charity initiatives during November – the “Movember” campaign, in which funds were raised to support men’s health awareness; and his own “Charity Challenge”, in which DiSalvatore gave of his own money and also matched donations from fans during a BEARS home weekend.  He then gave the proceeds to the American Red Cross in support of victims of Hurricane Sandy.

DiSalvatore is no stranger to leading his team, as he served as captain of the AHL’s Houston Aeros for the three previous seasons.

Potulny, 28, will serve as alternate captain for the BEARS after wearing the “A” for a portion of the 2011-2012 campaign.  The native of Grand Forks, ND led the BEARS and finished tied for third in the AHL in goals (33) last season, and led the league with 19 power-play goals.  The 6-0, 179-pound forward recently returned to the HERSHEY lineup from a month-long injury absence, and has recorded six assists in 12 appearances.  Potulny has also been a big part of the team’s off-ice contributions to the community.
