SHARKS EDGE BEARS 3-2 AFTER QUICK START HERSHEY GIVES TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE AND FALLS TO WORCESTER, 3-2. By: Sarah Sechrist The BEARS kicked off four games in five nights at home on Wednesday against Worcester, falling 3-2 despite outshooting the Sharks 43-21. Just 4:02 into the first period, Worcester’s Dan DaSilva scored on a rebound try for his third goal of the year. The Sharks’ Tommy Wingels scored the only other marker of the period on a breakaway at 5:45. The BEARS’ defense seemed to be struggling to keep the action in their own zone and the home team retired to the dressing room after 20 minutes down by two. HERSHEY looked more poised in the second period. Their lines seemed to be clicking, their defense kicked it up a notch, and they were logging more minutes in their own zone. It was Mathieu Perreault who lit the lamp first for the BEARS at 11:43, netting a Zach Miskovic pass from the bottom of the left circle. The Sharks answered back with just 50.3 seconds remaining in the period with a wrister from Sean Sullivan. Although the BEARS outshot the Sharks 15 shots to only seven, they weren’t able to equalize after 40 minutes. The third period was a battle of aggressive, angry, and desperate hockey. Jay Beagle beat Worcester goaltender Alex Stalock and scored on the power play just 1:13 into play. The BEARS recorded 15 shots on goal and held off Worcester’s offense, but they were unable to get the tally that they needed to force overtime. “Tonight I thought Stalock played a strong game, but it’s hard for me to get past our start,” said Head Coach Mark French following the game. “To get down 2-0 and get ourselves in that desperate situation; you almost allow yourself to have things like that happen where a goalie comes in and makes very good stops down the stretch. But it could have all been avoided had we played 60 minutes.” Notes: HERSHEY travels to take on Syracuse on Friday and then return home for games on Saturday vs. Adirondack and Sunday against Charlotte. Tickets are on sale at the Giant Center box office, or by calling (717) 534-3911. Keith Aucoin (lower body) and Francois Bouchard (neck) remained sidelined again Wednesday. Steve Pinizzotto returned to the lineup after missing two games with a hand injury. Brian Fahey was recalled to the Washington Capitals early on Wednesday and Jared DeMichiel was recalled from South Carolina to back up Sabourin.
