HERSHEY, Pa. – Paul Carey scored both goals for the Hershey Bears, including the game-winner, to help his club win its fourth consecutive game in a 2-1 overtime decision against the Providence Bruins on Wednesday night at GIANT Center.

With tight defense played by both teams to open the game, no penalties were assessed until inside the final five minutes.  The dBears earned the first chance of the night and made it count when Carey stopped a hard shot from Chandler Stephenson at the crease, pulling Malcolm Subban down.  Carey then lifted a backhander into the net for a 1-0 lead at 16:36, his team-leading seventh goal of the year.

Providence also earned a power play shortly afterward, and capitalized after a Bears player had to drop a broken stick.  With his team unable to clear, Justin Peters thwarted four good chances before Noel Acciari swept a rebound from the right circle into the net with 50.9 seconds left in the period.

The teams combined for just 10 shots on goal in the middle frame, but neither team could claim a lead.  The same score held at the end of regulation, forcing Hershey’s fifth overtime of the campaign.

Once again, Hershey dominated the puck possession time in the extra frame, and connected for the winner with 1:17 left.  Dustin Gazley curled up the right-wing boards and passed across to the left point.  Carey headed to the net while the pass came to Ness, and was set up at the top of the crease for a perfect deflection that trickled through Subban’s pads.

Peters stopped 27 of 28 shots for his second consecutive win and improved to 5-2-2 on the season.  Subban made 19 saves and fell to 1-4-2.  Hershey and Providence each finished 1-for-4 on the power play.
