HOCKEY CLUB HALL OF FAME CLASS OF 2015 ANNOUNCED

October 8, 2015

HERSHEY, Pa. – The Hershey Bears Hockey Club Hall of Fame Committee today announced the four people selected for induction into its Class of 2015.  The announcement was made by Bears president/general manager Doug Yingst.

Honored by the Hershey Bears Hockey Club Hall of Fame Committee as the fourth group of enshrinees are Roger DeJordy (player), Howie Yanosik (player), Larry Zeidel (player) and William “Scotty” Alexander (general).

“We are extremely gratified to add these four individuals to the growing pantheon of the Hershey Bears Hockey Club Hall of Fame,” Yingst said.  “Each contributed to the rich history of the Hershey Bears in his own special way.  We are proud to give them the permanent recognition they deserve.”

The Class of 2015 will be inducted on Sunday, December 20, prior to the puck drop between the Hershey Bears and Syracuse Crunch at GIANT Center.  The Hershey Bears Hockey Club Hall of Fame is housed on the GIANT Center concourse.

Larry Zeidel

Larry Zeidel played for the Bears from 1955-63 and ranks second in club history in all-time penalty minutes (1,335), third in points among defensemen (218) and 10th in games played (517).  A native of Montreal, Quebec, the late Zeidel, nicknamed “The Rock,” was a member of Hershey Calder Cup teams in 1957-58 and 1958-59 and a Cleveland Barons team that won the Calder Cup in 1963-64.  The defenseman played 158 career NHL games, including 57 for the expansion Philadelphia Flyers in 1967-68, and was a member of the Detroit Red Wings' 1951-52 Stanley Cup team.

William “Scotty” Alexander

William “Scotty” Alexander served as trainer of the Bears from 1945-73 and was one of the most colorful characters in club history.  A native of Toronto, Ontario, the late Alexander often served as the team's practice goalie and played one game in goal in an emergency situation in 1953-54 at age 45.  Alexander held the record as the oldest player in AHL history until 2008-09, when Chris Chelios played for the Grand Rapids Griffins at age 46.
