DEFENSEMAN RYAN STANTON SIGNED TO ONE-YEAR CONTRACT

July 24, 2015

HERSHEY, Pa. – The Hershey Bears announced today that the organization has signed defenseman Ryan Stanton to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2015-16 season.  The announcement was made by Bears president/general manager Doug Yingst.

Stanton, 26, has played the last two full seasons in the NHL with the Vancouver Canucks.  Dressing in 54 regular-season games in 2014-15, Stanton recorded 11 points (three goals, eight assists), 35 penalty minutes and a plus-nine efficiency rating.  He notched 16 points (one goal, 15 assists) in 64 games with the Canucks in 2013-14.

The 6-2, 196-pound native of St. Albert, Alberta played parts of four prior seasons in the Chicago Blackhawks organization.  Stanton appeared in one game with the NHL club in 2012-13, but spent the majority of the campaign with the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs, where he finished second among Rockford defensemen in scoring with 25 points (three goals, 22 assists), third on the squad in plus-minus (plus-16), and third in penalty minutes (126).

Stanton spent his entire AHL career in Rockford, posting 60 points (nine goals, 51 assists) in 224 regular-season games.

Prior to turning pro, Stanton played junior hockey with the WHL’s Moose Jaw Warriors from 2005-2010.  He totaled 102 points (19 goals, 83 assists) in 242 games.
