FORWARD PAUL CAREY SIGNS ON FOR 2015-16

July 8, 2015

HERSHEY, Pa. – The Hershey Bears announced today that the organization has signed forward Paul Carey to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2015-16 season.  The announcement was made by Bears president/general manager Doug Yingst.

Carey, 26, split last season between the AHL’s Lake Erie Monsters and Providence Bruins.  Acquired by the Boston Bruins from the Colorado Avalanche in a trade on March 2, 2015, Carey went on to record seven points (two goals, five assists) in 17 regular-season games in Providence.  Earlier in the campaign with Lake Erie, Carey notched 27 points (13 goals, 14 assists) in 43 games and still finished tied for eighth on the Monsters in scoring, while ranking fourth in goals.

The 6-0, 175-pound native of Boston, Massachusetts spent the majority of his professional career in the Avalanche organization.  He has a total of 89 points (40 goals, 49 assists) in 171 games with the Monsters, and a cumulative AHL total of 96 points (42 goals, 54 assists) in 188 games.  He was also summoned for 22 games of NHL duty, all with the Avalanche, and has recorded one assist.

Prior to turning pro, Carey played four years at Boston College (HE), where he registered 86 points (45 goals, 41 assists).  He was a two-time NCAA National Championship winner during his tenure, celebrating the titles in 2010 and 2012 – his sophomore and senior seasons.  Carey is credited with the game-winning goal for the Eagles in 2012 against Ferris State University.

Carey was originally selected by Colorado in the fifth round (135th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
