ADMIRALS TAKE REMATCH OVER BEARS

January 12, 2015

HERSHEY, Pa. – Casey Wellman and Kris Newbury scored big goals and Stan Galiev set up both, but the Norfolk Admirals made the most of six power plays, getting two goals from Emerson Etem en route to a 4-2 victory over the Hershey Bears on Sunday evening at GIANT Center.

The Bears were able to strike first in this rematch, when Wellman walked off of the left half wall toward the circle.  Using a defenseman as a screen, Wellman snapped a shot into the upper-right corner past Igor Bobkov at 5:56.

Later, with Nathan Walker serving a double-minor for high sticking, Etem made quick work of the first portion of the power play and beat goaltender Justin Peters with a snap shot to the stick side at 10:37.

In a penalty-marred second period, Norfolk was able to cash in.  Etem would follow up his own rebound and tap the puck through the pads of Peters at 13:21 for a second power play goal and a 2-1 Admirals lead.

Etem would set up Chris Wagner for what would turn out to be the game-winner 28 seconds into the third period.  Wagner got himself open inside the right circle and one-timed the pass over Peters’ arm.

Newbury made things interesting when he trailed behind Galiev and chipped a shot through a screen over Bobkov’s glove at 12:41, cutting the Bears’ deficit to one.

Hershey had a glorious chance to knot the score, when Admirals forwards Brad Winchester and Max Friberg were called for penalties 1:26 apart late in the game.  The Bears would pull Peters and skate six-on-three, but moments after Winchester returned, Dave Steckel was able to clear the puck from the Norfolk zone all the way into the empty net to seal the win with 28 seconds left on the clock.

Peters made 31 saves on 34 shots and is now 1-1-0 on the season.  Bobkov improved to 2-4-0 with 22 saves on 24 shots.

The Bears are home to host the Albany Devils on Saturday, January 17 at 7:00 PM.  Individual tickets for this and all remaining home games are available at the GIANT Center box office, online at TicketMaster.com or by calling 717-508-BEAR.
