GALIEV, GRUBAUER HELP BEARS BLANK ICECAPS

November 30, 2014

HERSHEY, Pa. – Stanislav Galiev stretched his power play goal streak to three games in scoring the only goal of the game, and Philipp Grubauer did his job at the opposite end by making 33 saves, helping the Hershey Bears to a 1-0 victory over the St. John’s IceCaps on Sunday evening at GIANT Center.

After two scoreless periods, the Bears would earn their second power play of the night when IceCaps forward J.C. Lipon took an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty at the final horn ending the second frame.  On the carry-over power play, Galiev collected a head-man pass from Phillipe Cornet, skated into the St. John’s zone and rifled a snap shot over the blocker of IceCaps goaltender Peter Budaj 37 seconds into the third period.

The goal was enough for the Bears, as the club’s league-leading penalty kill did the job on six St. John’s power plays and Grubauer’s goaltending was nothing short of outstanding.

Grubauer’s third shutout of the season moved his record to 8-5-2.  Budaj stopped 20 of 21 shots, but the former Hershey netminder could not pick up his first win and fell to 0-4-3.

The Bears conclude their season-long six-game home stand on Friday, December 5 with a 7:00 PM faceoff against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.  All fans in attendance will receive a complimentary one-day pass to Hersheypark valid through July 31, 2015.
