STRONG THIRD PERIOD PUSHES CRUNCH PAST BEARS

November 29, 2014

HERSHEY, Pa. – Cody Kunyk scored twice in the third period, including the game-winning goal, and Andrei Vasilevskiy made 28 saves and again allowed just one goal as the Syracuse Crunch skated past the Hershey Bears by a 4-1 count on Saturday night at GIANT Center.

Syracuse struck for the first goal of the game after the Bears opened with the best scoring chance of the night.  Moments after Chris Brown came within inches of sliding a puck through the pads of Vasilevskiy, Philippe Paradis buried a shot from in close over the arm of Philipp Grubauer at 6:06 of the period.  Yanni Gourde grabbed the rebound of a slow shot from Joey Mormina and fed Paradis with a pass that he wasted no time in firing home.

After failing on four power play chances, the Bears converted on their fifth to tie the contest.  Once again, Stanislav Galiev would rip a one-timer from the left circle fed to him by Connor Carrick, and the shot sailed over the arm of Vasilevskiy at 16:41 of the middle frame.
Tied early in the third, the Bears were under pressure in their own zone and a turnover came right in front to Kunyk, who snapped a shot high into the net at 1:58.

On the sixth power play of the night for the visitors, Syracuse would snap a long Hershey penalty kill streak when Kunyk charged at a rebound of a long shot from Joey Mormina and deked Grubauer to the backhand at 14:51 for a 3-1 lead.

Jonathan Marchessault then ended the contest by hitting the empty net with 55.1 seconds left.

Vasilevskiy improved to 5-3-3 on the year with the win, while Grubauer was stellar in net, stopping 33 of 36 shots, but fell to 7-5-2.
The Bears continue their season-long six-game home stand tomorrow, November 30 with a 5:00 PM faceoff against the St. John’s IceCaps.  The first 3,000 fans will get a car magnet courtesy of Thrivent Financial.
