STRONG SECOND PERIOD HELPS BEARS POWER PAST PENGUINS

November 16, 2014

HERSHEY, Pa .– Philippe Cornet, Connor Carrick and Chandler Stephenson were all a part of a three-goal third period that helped the Hershey Bears convert a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 victory over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Sunday evening at GIANT Center.

The Penguins would get on the board first, after weathering an abundance of shots and chances in their own end.  Jayson Megna sent a harmless-looking wrist shot from the left boards that bounced off of the arm of Philipp Grubauer and into the net at 11:14 of the opening period.

Megna added his second goal of the night just 38 seconds into the second, striking on a partial breakaway on a four-on-four situation to put the Penguins ahead 2-0.

Hershey then converted on their third power play to get on the board.  Cornet was stationed at the net front and deflected a Tim Kennedy shot behind Jeff Zatkoff at 4:59 for his fourth goal of the season.

Moments later, Josh Archibald would fire wide of the right post on a penalty shot opportunity, a key turning point.  The Bears would earn another power play late in the period, and Carrick’s center-point slap shot eluded Zatkoff low on the ice for a tie game at 16:44.

Stephenson would also earn a penalty shot with 23 seconds left in the period, and converted on a snap shot for a 3-2 advantage.

Grubauer would deny all four Wilkes-Barre/Scranton shots in the third period to protect the lead, while Zatkoff fought furiously to keep the Bears from edging further forward with nine of his 32 total stops coming in the final frame.

Grubauer improves to 5-4-1 with 16 saves on 18 shots.  Zatkoff made 32 saves but suffered the loss and fell to 3-4-0 on the season.

Hershey’s next game is on Wednesday, November 19, as the club travels to Allentown to face the Lehigh Valley Phantoms at 7:05 PM.  Fans may listen beginning with pre-game at 6:25 PM on the Bears Radio Network of affiliates WQIC-FM 100.1, WTKT-AM 1460, WOYK-AM 1350 and the iHeart Radio app for smartphones (WTKT-AM 1460).
